Change Begins With Truth
“Wherewithal shall a young man cleanse his way? By taking heed
thereto according to thy word.”
Psalm 119:9
All real change in life begins with truth. In the Mount Everest of the
119th Psalm, David not only captures the question of the age,
but provides the answer of a lifetime. When we look behind the English
word, “cleanse” we find the word that means, “to be pure” to “be
innocent.” So the question David really poses; is “how can a man make
his way “innocent?” How can a man make his way “pure?” That is a life
changing, question? It is the question that every Christian needs to
learn to ask. When a person comes to faith in Christ, he is a new
creature. However the real journey begins, as he/she yields to the Lord
as He molds, and shapes their new ways of living. Who we are is changed
when we are saved. How we live, is a product of the changes that come
through our Christian growth. How then do changes come? Not only does
David nail down the question, but he also lifts up the answer.
“By taking heed thereto according to
Thy Word.”
Real faith is when we just take God at His Word; nothing more, nothing
less. However, taking God at His Word is more than just intellectual
agreement; it is willfully yielding to what God’s Word says. The
practical word is “obedience”.
Nothing about our ways of life will change, until we yield ourselves to
the obedience of the Word of God. Yet once we do begin to “walk by the
Word” then everything becomes a candidate for real change.
Our way becomes pure when His Word becomes our Walk. We grow in our
faith, and make real changes in our lives in direct proportion to our
yielding to the Word of God.
